new projects

We've got cable and internet hooked up and running at the new house, so we're back on the blog on a more regular basis now, we hope.

We've been moved in for just over two weeks now, and while we've got lots of little projects to keep us busy, we've relaxed ourselves from doing construction for a while. This is mostly a combination of lots of time spent unpacking and re-organizing, the need to decompress a little, having kids running around here most of the time, and the gorgeous weather that is starting to push us to do outside work. It's been a whirlwind of a year, and Julie and I are enjoying our new home, and the fact that we again have the chance to spend time together, all four of us.

It was a BEAUTIFUL Vermont spring weekend this past weekend, and we did spend much of it outside. I got the garage cleaned, which was no small task. Not only had we accumulated a years worth of construction "stuff" in there, but we also moved our old garage over here and added all that junk to the mix. 600 lbs of garbage to the dump on Saturday morning and things are looking spiffy.

Sarah donated half a kitchen's worth of old cabinets to the High Meadow Lane project, and I spent a day hanging them in the basement. I put a nice bench top on them, using the milled pine wood from here on the property, and carved myself out a nice little work space for working on further house projects. Joe kindly left us the table saw and wood planer, they've been great for doing the shelving around here, and we'll put them to use working on the rest of our trim work before too long.

Yesterday was also too nice to spend inside, so I carved out a spot on the hill side in front of the house, leveled it out and built Julie a raised bed for her garden. We originally thought that this spot was going to be too wet for gardening, but the landscaping that we did last fall has really done a great job of steering excess water away from this area. With the trees in front of the house, about half the garden is in full sunlight all day, while half gets shade for a few hours in the afternoon. Julie says this is good, though I have no idea.
