My Yankees
I've tried to be a good fan, and not do a lot of bragging about my Yanks. I had to take a lot of shots from the Red Sox faithful up here, as well as in-laws, after the Yankess (wicked) poor start to the season. When Sarah took us to the Yanks-Sox game at Fenway, the boys were 13.5 games back. Judy and Joe gave me tickets to the Yanks game on August 5th (which was awesome, which we won, thanks again), at which point we'd cut the Sox lead to 7.0 games.
At that point we had one of the best records in MLB over the past several weeks, while the Sox had been playing just over .500 baseball, and there were comments about how the Yanks had climbed back into it based on the weak teams they'd played. So still I tried to keep quiet about the boys. We've started to play the big boys the past couple weeks, including the teams we had to pass to make the playoffs. After a sweep of Cleveland and taking 3 of 4 from Detroit, I'm no longer able to keep silent. We're virtually tied with an overachieving Mariner club and only 4 games back of Boston. They're back. They're healthy. They're going to be playing baseball in October.
I'd also like to mention that while the Yanks are often accused of buying players and pennants, it was the Sox who decided to trade for Eric Gagne, AND pay him extra millions of dollars to keep him happy in his current role as a middle-inning reliever. It was the Yankees who stayed quiet at the trade deadline, refusing to give up young guys like Melky Cabrera, Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain for a big bat or star pitcher. Those guys are leading our charge back up the stadnings, but I haven't heard how Gagne's been working out in Beantown.
We DID acquire a utility infielder by the name of Wilson Betemit. That's the guy who had 4 RBI on Jeter's day off yesterday.
Finally, an article from the Onion.

I should mention that my two favorite Red Sox fans, Judy and Sarah, financed both of the Yankees games that I've been to. And Sarah paid for my ticket even though I wore my Yanks gear to Fenway. The fact that they are so nice and still Sox fans can only be b/c they aren't from New England.
Ahhh yes. Retribution for all the garbage I've taken since I've moved to Vermont isn't far off. Let's go Yanks.
RIGHT!!! I'd rather waste $6MM on a crappy closer than $25MM on a starter who only plays half the year and only travels when he wants to... then stinks it up when he takes the mound.
Hugs & Kisses,
Greg
