The first big summer project is getting wood stacked and drying for this winter. I dropped a few trees in early/mid May, and have them blocked up. I've spent a couple nap times this week splitting and stacking, and have a pile of limbs that need to be chopped up. Today, while Evie was at school, AJ and I made a sawbuck to accomplish this task this weekend. It took AJ a little while to get into it; he spent the first little while demolishing various bugs in the field and driveway. Eventually I got him to come in to help. I held the drill while he pulled the trigger to screw the screws into the boards. He pretty much thought that he was the s**t. It was great to see him this excited about helping, I would have loved to take some pictures of it, but I was holding the drill steady at the time.
The sawbuck is made partially with pine from the homestead, and it's a collapsible design, hinging on the dowels you can (kind of) see in the picture. I was pretty excited, Evie came home from school, came in through the garage to check it out, found that it rocked a little, and told me that it wasn't steady enough and needed some paint. Sweet kid.
