frosted beetle cakes

About a week ago I asked AJ what sort of cake he wanted for his birthday party this past Sunday. "Frosted beetle cake." he responded.

Uh-huh. Is that the same as lemon?

I have no idea what he actually had in mind in making this request, but this is what I came up with.

And after spending a half hour the morning of the party telling me exactly which jelly beans belonged on which beetle cake, AJ seemed pleased with the end result.
