The big news in the family for this week is that I'm leaving my job. This is Aaron by the way, Julie is still working to clean up Lake Champlain. A long-term (but still temporary) position opened up in the biomonitoring section here at DEC. A position doing things I did in grad school; stream invert sampling, fish surveys... there's lots of field work and science involved and only limited desk time. I interviewed a couple weeks ago and got the position. The other great part is that temporary state employees are only allowed to work 9 months per year regardless of what department they are in. Since I've already used 5 months and they need me most in the fall, I'm going to stay home with the kids this summer, starting June 1st through mid August.

Bonus points for anyone who knows what these critters are.

how specific does one need to be in order to receive these "bonus points?"

depends on your background tough guy. Order for non-scientists, doesn't even have to be scientific name. For science people like yourself I need family. Genus for stream ecologists. If you get it right i'll send you a birthday present

As the supreme non-scientist I am going to go with AJ (at top) and Evie (lower right). Congrats on the job and scoring summer vacation!
